GM bulletin PI0754G

What it saysThis PI provides information on Rear and Side Tempered Glass Spots (Quench Marks) and that they are a normal characteristic. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

GM filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jul 31, 2024, received Aug 17, 2024, about the visibility/wiper. It names 438 model years across Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac (2016–2025). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

One page for every brand it was filed under. Each brand’s bulletins: Chevrolet · GMC · Buick · Cadillac.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 360 model years this bulletin names have filed 42,419 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 451 of them name Visibility/Wiper — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, the 49 owners who gave an odometer reading for Visibility/Wiper reported it at a median of 74,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

The windshield wipers do not work. When the wipers are turned on, the spray comes on and does not turn off. You are unable to see as the spray keeps spraying the entire time the wipers are on. I took the dealer twice and they have been unable to repair. They now say are waiting for parts. I can't be the only one. This is very concerning.

2024 GMC Hummer EV · Visibility/Wiper · filed with NHTSA Oct 18, 2024

The contact owns a 2021 Cadillac XT5. The contact stated that while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle in front of her kicked up a rock off the roadway and cracked the windshield. The vehicle was taken to Safelite, and the windshield was repaired. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.

This is not a failure, just a poor design for cold temperatures. The windshield wipers are set low on the windshield, below where the defroster can reach. When it is cold/snowing outside, (which it does a lot in the Alaskan interior), the wipers remove the melted water from the windshield and push it down to where the wipers sit in the…

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is GM PI0754G a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the PI0754G repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does PI0754G cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 438 model years across 4 brands (Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac): 2019 Buick Cascada, 2018 Buick Cascada, 2017 Buick Cascada, 2016 Buick Cascada, 2025 Buick Enclave, 2024 Buick Enclave and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
