Every recall, as filed
NHTSA safety recall campaigns across every car, truck and SUV we track, refreshed nightly. No summaries of summaries: each campaign page carries the manufacturer's own words.

Is one of them on your car?
Pick the make, model and year and its page opens at the recall list: every campaign NHTSA holds for that model year, in the manufacturer’s own words. Whether one particular car is inside a campaign is a question for its VIN.
Tell me when it gets recalled. Pick the model year and we email you the morning NHTSA files a new campaign against it. Nothing else, ever; one-click unsubscribe.
Have the VIN? Decode it and open that model year’s record, or check it at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Filed with NHTSA against model years 2016 and newer. Each has its own page here with the manufacturer's filed text in full — the defect, the risk and the remedy, unedited.
Their potentially-affected counts add up to 263,554,145, but that is a sum of campaigns and not a count of cars: a vehicle caught by three campaigns is in it three times.
A further 6,001 campaigns filed since 2016 on vehicles without a page here (older model years, motorhomes, trailers, buses, motorcycles) have their own pages too — type the campaign or manufacturer number into the search box, or read them on the month pages below.

Largest by vehicles affected
Source: potentially-affected count as filedThe number a manufacturer files is its estimate of how many vehicles could carry the defect, not how many were found to have it.
Standing advisories
Source: park outside / do not driveThe two most serious things NHTSA attaches to a campaign. Both mean the risk is present with the vehicle switched off.
The service desk: fix sheets
Source: from the dealer bulletins NHTSA publishes4899 campaigns whose remedy instructions or dealer notice are on file, read into the line a service desk asks for: stop-sale, remedy availability, part numbers, the labour operation and its hours, special tools. For used-car and reconditioning managers, independent shops and fleets.
vehicles in these campaigns were never repaired
Manufacturers report cumulative repairs to NHTSA every quarter for six quarters and then stop. These are the largest campaigns whose window has closed with the most of the fleet still unrepaired — the last number the manufacturer was required to file. Some of the shortfall is vehicles nobody could reach: exported, scrapped, stolen or never located.

How to check a used car for open recalls before you buy
Federal law keeps a dealer from delivering a new car with an unrepaired safety recall. It does not do the same for used cars, so the check is yours: how to run it by VIN, what each result means, and how to get the free repair.
