Why teams trust the data
EPA certification records, NHTSA recall, complaint, investigation and crash-test files, and manufacturers' own press-kit spec sheets. No scraped dealer sites, no user-submitted specs.
Trim-level figures carry the press-kit URL they were transcribed from; federal records carry their EPA and NHTSA identifiers.
The dataset is rebuilt from the source files every day and the API serves the same build the site does.
TLS 1.2+ on every request; data and keys stored with AES-256 server-side encryption on AWS.
Trim data is checked against the manufacturer's own material by a team that builds product training for OEM dealer networks.
Month to month, cancel from your dashboard, keys keep working until the period ends.
Questions
How are requests counted?
One request = one HTTP call to any /v1 endpoint, regardless of response size. List endpoints return up to 500 records per call, so a full-catalog pull is a handful of requests.
When does my quota reset?
Monthly plans reset on the calendar month; the free tier resets daily. Overages return HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header — nothing is billed automatically.
Can I cancel?
Yes, from the dashboard, any time. Your keys keep the paid plan until the end of the billing period and then drop to Free.
Where does the data come from?
EPA fueleconomy.gov certification records, NHTSA recall / complaint / investigation / NCAP files and manufacturers' official press-kit spec sheets. Every trim value carries its source URL.
How fresh is it?
The dataset is rebuilt every day from the source files. NHTSA campaigns typically appear within a day of posting; EPA and press-kit updates on the next build.
Do you offer invoices, DPAs or custom terms?
Business and Enterprise plans can be invoiced. Email data@whichtrim.com for a data-license agreement or custom volumes.
Is there an alternative to a credit card?
The same API is listed on RapidAPI if your team already bills there — same data, RapidAPI's plans and keys.
Prefer a marketplace? The same API is on RapidAPI. Prices in USD; sales tax added where required.
