Audi bulletin A6923912056406_4

What it saysThis bulletin provides information for when the airbag warning light is on and DTC B13BCF2 is stored in the airbag control module. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Audi filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jun 30, 2023, received Jul 10, 2023, about the air bags. It names 208 model years (2016–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 206 model years this bulletin names have filed 3,556 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 240 of them name Air Bags — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2016 Audi A3, the 15 owners who gave an odometer reading for Air Bags reported it at a median of 42,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

My vehicle has the Audi recall 69BY that came out on March 22, 2021. There is currently still no remedy and its November 19th, 2021. Its been nearly 8 months. The pre-sense warning light and the airbag light are glaring on the dash at all times. Nobody can sit in the passenger seat as the airbag would not deploy in the event of a crash.

2019 Audi RS · Air Bags · filed with NHTSA Nov 19, 2021 · ODI 11441059

The contact called on behalf on her client who owned a 2017 Audi Q5. While driving at 10-15 MPH, another vehicle was speeding through a red light and crashed into the front passenger side of the vehicle. No air bags deployed and no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was totaled and towed to the tow yard. A police report was filed.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2016 Audi A6. The contact stated that NHTSA campaign number: 18v370000 (air bags) exceeded a reasonable amount of time for repair. The contact received the recall letter in july of 2018. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the parts were unavailable for repair.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Audi A6923912056406_4 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the A6923912056406_4 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does A6923912056406_4 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 208 model years: 2024 Audi A3, 2023 Audi A3, 2022 Audi A3, 2020 Audi A3, 2019 Audi A3, 2018 Audi A3 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
