Porsche bulletin No. 2311

What it saysInstructions on advanced technical information for the 992 GT3 - DME fault/fuel low pressure NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Porsche filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jun 22, 2023, received Jun 6, 2023, about the equipment — 2 documents under this number. It names 78 model years (2016–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 52 model years this bulletin names have filed 756 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 185 of them name Engine, Fuel/Propulsion System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

While driving my 2019 Porsche Cayenne S on the freeway, the check-engine light came on, followed by a message on the dashboard that read “Engine Control fault – Driving permitted – Visit workshop.” Moments later, the vehicle suddenly lost power and decelerated from about ~75 mph to around 55 mph, even though my foot was still on the…

My 2022 Taycan does not show to be one included in the electrical issue recall, however I am experiencing the center screen going dark while driving. Only had the car a little over a week, and it has happen twice, both times on the freeway. Not going slow or stopping, about 60-70MPH. went off for about 20-30 seconds then came back on

As I was making a turn onto another avenue, and accelerating to blend into traffic flow, dashboard messages suddenly appeared 1)"Engine control error, driving still possible, see dealer." 2)"Active lane keeping not available, driving still possible, service required" 3)"Adaptive Cruise Control not available, driving still possible…

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Porsche No. 2311 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the No. 2311 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Porsche warranty extension on file lists the ones Porsche has filed.

Which vehicles does No. 2311 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 78 model years: 2023 Porsche 718, 2022 Porsche 718, 2021 Porsche 718, 2020 Porsche 718, 2024 Porsche 911, 2023 Porsche 911 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
