Porsche warranty extensions and special coverage

5 programs Porsche filed with NHTSA in which it extends, or specially covers, a part beyond the original warranty — the term each runs to where the document states it, and the model years it names. Not recalls: the terms are Porsche’s, they end, and the dealer checks the VIN.

Common questions about Porsche warranty extensions

Source: NHTSA manufacturer communications

Does Porsche have a warranty extension for my car?

Find your model and year in the list above and open the program: it names the model years Porsche listed and quotes NHTSA’s summary. Not every vehicle of those years is covered — a Porsche dealer checks the VIN. Bring the number (for example 43-26).

Is a warranty extension a recall?

No. A safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number and the law requires the manufacturer to fix it free. A warranty extension carries no campaign number and no legal requirement: the years, the miles and what is covered are the manufacturer’s own terms, and when they run out the coverage ends. Recalls have their own pages.

I already paid for this repair. Can I get the money back?

Many programs reimburse owners who paid before the extension was announced; where NHTSA’s summary says so, the program’s page shows it under “Paid for it already?”. The manufacturer decides, from your receipts.
