Land Rover bulletin SSM75869

What it saysCoolant Low Warning Message Displayed On The Instrument Panel Cluster NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Land Rover filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Sep 12, 2023, received Dec 7, 2022, about the engine — 4 documents under this number. It names 22 model years (2016–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 22 model years this bulletin names have filed 1,490 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 728 of them name Electrical System, Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2017 Land Rover Range Rover, the 14 owners who gave an odometer reading for Engine reported it at a median of 22,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

Red warning in dash along with “stop safely, electrical fault detected.” Car drove normally for a mile before wipers came on and then multiple warnings for “collision, suspension, stability, height, tire, braking fault, ect. detected” came on. Car lost all power, steering wheel locked, unable to park or turn off vehicle with push button.

2024 Land Rover Discovery · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Oct 13, 2026 · ODI 11770976

I was driving on Ware Rd about 50 MPH on my way home. The vehicle turned off while I was driving and had to turn into a street before the vehicle stopped moving. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the failure. If I had been on a highway, there would not have been a way for me to get out of dangerous traffic.

2022 Land Rover Discovery · Engine · filed with NHTSA Jan 4, 2026 · ODI 11708665

After coming to a complete stop at an intersection, I looked left-right-left before proceeding across the intersection. At the time I began to cross the intersection my vehicle seemingly did not accelerate as normal, causing my vehicle to be hit on the right driver side panel, spun around, and ripping the entire front end of my car off.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Land Rover SSM75869 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the SSM75869 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does SSM75869 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 22 model years: 2024 Land Rover Defender, 2023 Land Rover Defender, 2022 Land Rover Defender, 2021 Land Rover Defender, 2020 Land Rover Defender, 2024 Land Rover Discovery and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
