Ford F-150 fuel system problems, 2016–2026
219 of the 10,822 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Ford F-150 2016–2026 name the fuel system (NHTSA’s “Fuel/Propulsion System” heading — fuel tanks, lines, pumps and injection — and on an EV, the propulsion battery and motors). The loudest years: 2021 (106), 2022 (99), 2023 (9). Filed under the same heading across these years: 4 manufacturer bulletins, 4 recall campaigns, 1 NHTSA investigation. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the fuel system. Nothing here is a rate.
When the fuel system complaints were filed, and at what mileage
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseFiled per calendar year, every model year together: 2022: 1 · 2023: 12 · 2024: 11 · 2025: 73 · 2026: 122
Across the model years, half of the 149 owners who gave an odometer reading reported the fuel system problem between 15,000 and 62,000 miles. A median of reports, not the life of a part.
In owners’ own words

The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle lost electrical power, and the contact initially believed that the failure was due to a dead battery. The battery was replaced and the vehicle was hesitating while accelerating.
I have replaced spark plugs and coil packs due to code saying severe misfiring. However, the root cause of this is the continued open recall of the fuel pump. This has effected the way I can drive my vehicle on daily activities, such as going to work, doing family things, and other things while driving this truck
My F150 will, on occasion, not accelerate when I am going slow and making a right turn. There are no fault lights, just the engine does nothing when I press the gas pedal. I coast to the intersection, apply the breaks, start the right turn, then press the accelerator to speed up.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V455000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair.
I have a 2023 f150 powerboost. I slowed down to a yielding sign to turn right onto the state highway. The engine was in electric mode, I went to push the acceleration pedal and nothing happened. The truck would not accelerate for 4-5 seconds. I then put the accelerator pedal to the floor and it finally engaged and the truck flew.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communicationsWhich Ford F-150 years have the most fuel system complaints?
2021, 106; 2022, 99; 2023, 9. Raw counts, and an older year has had longer to collect them; by share of each year's own complaints the loudest is the 2022 (12%).
Is there a recall for the fuel system on the Ford F-150?
Yes — 4 campaigns are filed under this heading across these model years: 26V578000 (2026), 25V455000 (2022), 22V414000 (2021), 18V392000 (2018). A recall is matched by VIN, and applies to specific years; check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
When do fuel system problems show up on the Ford F-150?
Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 35,000 miles across the model years; half of them between 15,000 and 62,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.
What does NHTSA's "Fuel/Propulsion System" heading cover?
Fuel tanks, lines, pumps and injection — and on an EV, the propulsion battery and motors. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
