What it saysThis bulletin provides information for when the individual overhead view cameras are inoperative, the picture is blurry or fogged up, DTCs B200FFA, B127C04, C12AE02. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Audi filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Nov 15, 2023, received Dec 6, 2023, about the back over prevention. It names 91 model years (2019–2026). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 88 model years this bulletin names have filed 972 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 26 of them name Back Over Prevention — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

The contact owns a 2019 Audi A6. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the rearview camera and blind spot monitoring system intermittently failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure.

2019 Audi A6 · Back Over Prevention · filed with NHTSA Oct 18, 2022 · ODI 11489773

My backup camera turns off when I am backing up. I can no longer see behind my vehicle and I do not get any warnings that a car is approaching from either side of my vehicle. On a more minor note the sun roof opened on its own while I was driving on a highway during a rain storm

2021 Audi A8 · Back Over Prevention · filed with NHTSA Nov 2, 2025 · ODI 11697005

Camera system does not work sometimes or only some of the cameras work sometimes. Dealer agrees there is a problem, but no fix is currently available. I have noted that other 2022 Audi A6 models have been recalled for this reason. The problem first occurred about 2 months ago.

2022 Audi A6 · Back Over Prevention · filed with NHTSA Aug 13, 2024 · ODI 11608321

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Audi A9023552055188_7 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the A9023552055188_7 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does A9023552055188_7 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 91 model years: 2025 Audi A6, 2024 Audi A6, 2023 Audi A6, 2022 Audi A6, 2021 Audi A6, 2020 Audi A6 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
