Stellantis bulletin 9100279
What it saysCOOLER Engine Oil Please be aware that the oil cooler seal is serviceable as a standalone part and should be considered for replacement as a remedy for fluid leak. NHTSA’s full summary ↓
Stellantis filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Nov 28, 2023, received Jan 16, 2024, about the engine. It names 21 model years across Jeep, Ram and Dodge (2016–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseOwners of the 21 model years this bulletin names have filed 6,868 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 1,664 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.
On the 2017 Ram 1500, the 79 owners who gave an odometer reading for Engine reported it at a median of 44,022 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.
While driving on the highway, the engine overheating light came on, the car seemed to be losing power, and I pulled over and was then towed to the dealership. My safety was put at risk as I could have been hit as the car was slowing down in fast traffic; it also was extremely cold (about 5 degrees F) while I waited for the tow truck.
2022 Dodge Durango · Engine · filed with NHTSA Mar 23, 2025 · ODI 11649967
As I was pulling up to a red light, the vehicle threw itself into park and completely stopped and would not move. I was unable to put gear into drive. Thankfully, I was not going at full speed. After a couple minutes, I was able to put my foot on brake to restart the car. At this point, the engine and battery light were on as well.
2022 Jeep Wagoneer · Engine · filed with NHTSA Sep 16, 2022 · ODI 11484797
Had been experiencing transmission warning lights but engine didn't produce any codes. I took to 2 different dealers and they said nothing we could do about sensor problems until code appears. While driving at night about a half mile from home my truck shut down. My engine turned off and lost my steering, lights, and dash lights.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is Stellantis 9100279 a recall?
No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the 9100279 repair free?
Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Stellantis warranty extension on file lists the ones Stellantis has filed.
Which vehicles does 9100279 cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 21 model years across 3 brands (Jeep, Ram and Dodge): 2024 Dodge Durango, 2023 Dodge Durango, 2022 Dodge Durango, 2021 Dodge Durango, 2020 Dodge Durango, 2019 Dodge Durango and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
