GM filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Mar 12, 2024, received Apr 15, 2024, about the visibility/wiper. It names 26 model years across Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac (2022–2024). The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

This is not a failure, just a poor design for cold temperatures. The windshield wipers are set low on the windshield, below where the defroster can reach. When it is cold/snowing outside, (which it does a lot in the Alaskan interior), the wipers remove the melted water from the windshield and push it down to where the wipers sit in the…
2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD · Visibility/Wiper · filed with NHTSA Nov 30, 2024
Serious Safety Issue: While driving in the Rain, with the wipers on (actively working), randomly they will stop working. They will not work again until 10-15 minutes of time has passed. Any alternative setting makes no difference. During the 10-15 minutes of non-working wipers, there is nothing the driver can do…. Except wait.
2023 GMC Yukon · Visibility/Wiper · filed with NHTSA Sep 17, 2024
The wipers have stopped working on a least 6 different occasions. I have to pull over immediately due to not being able to see out the windshield. I try adjusting the switch through all the settings. I shut off the engine and restart the truck. I also turned off the rain sense function on the vehicle settings.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is GM PIT6132 a recall?
No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the PIT6132 repair free?
Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.
Which vehicles does PIT6132 cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 26 model years across 3 brands (Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac): 2024 Cadillac Escalade, 2023 Cadillac Escalade, 2022 Cadillac Escalade, 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, 2023 Chevrolet Silverado, 2022 Chevrolet Silverado and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
