185 of the 4,151 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Nissan Rogue 2016–2026 name the airbags (NHTSA’s “Air Bags” heading — airbags, their sensors and warning lights). The loudest years: 2017 (77), 2016 (61), 2018 (39). Filed under the same heading across these years: 1 manufacturer bulletin, 3 recall campaigns. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the airbags. Nothing here is a rate.

In owners’ own words

The front passenger seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor failed. When the passenger seat is completely empty and vacant, the dashboard airbag warning light illuminates and stays on. However, when an adult sits in the passenger seat, the warning light turns off and the system functions normally.
The air bag light turned on in the dashboard and I took it to the dealership they charged a diagnostics fee and said that the OSC sensor and control unit need to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Rogue. While driving 35 MPH, the vehicle hydroplaned and the passenger side tires hit the curb. The passenger side air bag deployed. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The failure mileage was 1,400
I purchased a 2016 Rogue from cool springs Nissan on 11/16/2016 and took delivery on 11/17 2016. Upon arrival to take delivery we noticed that the ars light was on and contacted the salesman to see what the problem was, he took the new vehicle to the service dept.
The contact owns a 2018 Nissan Rogue Sport. The contact stated while driving at 65 MPH, the contact noticed an abnormal loud sound. The contact stated that all the air bags independently deployed. The contact stated that the deployed air bags impaired the contact vision. The contact held the steering wheel tightly.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communicationsWhich Nissan Rogue years have the most airbag complaints?
2017, 77; 2016, 61; 2018, 39. Raw counts, and an older year has had longer to collect them; by share of each year's own complaints the loudest is the 2017 (11%).
Is there a recall for the airbags on the Nissan Rogue?
Yes — 3 campaigns are filed under this heading across these model years: 24V154000 (2023), 16V911000 (2016), 16V244000 (2017). A recall is matched by VIN, and applies to specific years; check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
When do airbag problems show up on the Nissan Rogue?
Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 30,000 miles across the model years; half of them between 15,000 and 56,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.
What does NHTSA's "Air Bags" heading cover?
Airbags, their sensors and warning lights. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
