Hyundai Palisade suspension problems, 2020–2027

144 of the 2,445 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Hyundai Palisade 2020–2027 name the suspension (NHTSA’s “Suspension” heading — springs, dampers, control arms and their bushings and joints). The loudest years: 2020 (61), 2021 (30), 2024 (20). Filed under the same heading across these years: 2 manufacturer bulletins. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

One row per model year on file, newest first. A year marked in depth has its own page: the complaints, the owners’ words and every document under this heading for that year.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the suspension. Nothing here is a rate.

Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the suspension, from the model years with the most to say. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

Rear shock absorbers are not functioning properly after 70,000 miles. I have had no success after no less than 10 attempts to purchase replacements from dealers and online Hyundai parts suppliers. Hyundai is aware of the defective shock absorber issue but has not corrected the replacement issue

Suspension Nov 9, 2023 NHTSA owner report
The car is under a year old, and started having a popping noise from rear driver side. The problem was determined to be the shock failing. This was confirmed at the dealer as a known issue that Hyundai is working on. We asked for it to be documented and put on file for our car.
Suspension Nov 30, 2024 NHTSA owner report
The failed/malfunctioning component(s) are the rear shocks/struts. Safety put at risk due to uncontrollable bumpiness and instability while driving on less than perfectly smooth local roads and highways. The problem has been confirmed by local Hyundai dealership service center.

2024 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy. Clicking/knocking noise from left rear shock absorber area. Noise occurs when accelerating from a stop as the rear of the vehicle compresses under load, and can be reproduced by pushing the rear of the vehicle up and down.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Which Hyundai Palisade years have the most suspension complaints?

2020, 61; 2021, 30; 2024, 20. Raw counts, and an older year has had longer to collect them; by share of each year's own complaints the loudest is the 2020 (11%).

Is there a recall for the suspension on the Hyundai Palisade?

No recall campaign is filed under this heading on any of these model years. A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.

When do suspension problems show up on the Hyundai Palisade?

Too few of the complaints carry an odometer reading to say.

What does NHTSA's "Suspension" heading cover?

Springs, dampers, control arms and their bushings and joints. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
