GM bulletin PIE0773

What it saysThis engineering information (EI) is requesting information from technicians to perform the check list provided and contact the engineer listed in regard to Melted Burn Marks and/or Smoke Smell Coming from the Height… NHTSA’s full summary ↓

GM filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Dec 21, 2023, received Jan 4, 2024, about the seats. It names 29 model years across Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac (2022–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

One page for every brand it was filed under. Each brand’s bulletins: Chevrolet · GMC · Buick · Cadillac.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Owners of the 29 model years this bulletin names have filed 1,650 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 309 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On February 4, 2026, my wife drove to the bank, a trip of about 10 to 15 minutes, and turned off the car at the ATM. When she tried to leave, the vehicle wouldn't start. After a while, she opened and closed the door and locked and unlocked the car twice with the remote control, and the vehicle started and she was able to drive, but all…

2023 Chevrolet Malibu · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Feb 11, 2026

Started vehicle in morning and no sound from the infotainment system (even if radio screen is on). Noticed turn indicators sound no longer functioned as well as I believe auto stop function also became non-functional. Safety concern while driving. Had to reset by performing a system re-set/re-boot myself to make everything work again.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is GM PIE0773 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the PIE0773 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does PIE0773 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 29 model years across 4 brands (Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac): 2024 Buick Enclave, 2023 Buick Enclave, 2022 Buick Enclave, 2024 Cadillac XT4, 2023 Cadillac XT4, 2022 Cadillac XT4 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
