Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the engine. Nothing here is a rate.
When the engine complaints were filed, and at what mileage

In owners’ own words

GM has been building V8 engines with a known defect that is bending push rods and damaging lifters. These newer engines use a DFM system and that system is compounding this engine defect. GM has refused to replace all the lifters and is going forward with just fixing engines as they blow up which can happen at any time.
I have has this vehicle for just over a year, and in the time i have accumulated 8,600 miles. Suddenly, yesterday after normal I stopped for a red light. The start/stop function came on (normally) and then all of a sudden the vehicle restarted it self, but, it started running rough, and misfiring. when i moved it backfired several time.
Traveling on the interstate late at night in the winter with my family, which includes small children, a clicking noise began but then went away. No diagnostic lamps came on, everything seemed fine, vehicle responded appropriately. Moments later, on a remote stretch of interstate, we lost power and the engine shut down.
I was driving down the interstate and with the no warning the vehicle would not accelerate any longer and tried to coast onto the exit. Totally stopped blocking all traffic on the exit. Could not crank the engine or at least put in to neutral to push out of the road.
Check engine light came on due to a P1098 and I received a reduced acceleration advisory. This greatly diminished the performance of the vehicle and made it a hazard to continue on the highway
