Chevrolet Blazer engine problems, 2019–2027

196 of the 810 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Chevrolet Blazer 2019–2027 name the engine (NHTSA’s “Engine” heading — the engine and its cooling system). The loudest years: 2020 (71), 2021 (46), 2019 (41). Filed under the same heading across these years: 3 manufacturer bulletins. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the engine. Nothing here is a rate.

Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the engine, from the model years with the most to say. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

2020 Chevy blazer with 50,000 miles just had to have the thermostat housing replaced. Check engine light would everntually come on. But it would say "Steering assist reduced drive with care" When hooked up to the computer it read code P0128.
Engine Sep 30, 2024 NHTSA owner report
Approximately three weeks ago, our 2020 Chevrolet Blazer's check engine light came on. It has a little over 63,000 miles on it. I took it to a private service garage where they diagnosed the code as P0128, or coolant system issue. They concluded that it was the thermostat.
Engine May 17, 2024 NHTSA owner report
The first incident started on 08/16/2024, 2 days after buying the vehicle used from Dealership. I started getting notifications stating "Service-Front Camera not available" and sure enough, I no longer had a front camera, which then means I no longer have front collision alerts.
Engine Jul 21, 2025 NHTSA owner report
"Driver Assisted Reduced Use Drive With Care Message" comes on when it is over 70 degrees outside. The temperature gage reads zero, A/C does not work, when the car is turned off the fan runs on high for an extended period of time. Showing code P0128 Used car purchase, came on 3 days after receiving vehicle from the dealership.
Engine May 3, 2025 NHTSA owner report
The Blazer is having a recurring P0128 code. We have informed the dealership. This has been going on for 2 years or so. I reset the code with a code reader and it stays off for a few months usually.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Which Chevrolet Blazer years have the most engine complaints?

2020, 71; 2021, 46; 2019, 41. Raw counts, and an older year has had longer to collect them; by share of each year's own complaints the loudest is the 2021 (34%).

Is there a recall for the engine on the Chevrolet Blazer?

No recall campaign is filed under this heading on any of these model years. A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.

When do engine problems show up on the Chevrolet Blazer?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 46,860 miles across the model years; half of them between 15,000 and 92,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Engine" heading cover?

The engine and its cooling system. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
