Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the electrical system. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

The issue started with the automatic tailgate deploying or opening during transit. I was hauling cargo and the at highway speed the tailgate opened and the load ejected from the the bed of truck onto the highway. Fortunately there was no accident or damage to anyone else property.

While driving on interstate 20, eastbound, my low fuel pressure indicator light came on. I started losing power and we pulled off at the exit that was there. As soon as we stopped, the engine bay was on fire. It gave no indication of odd smells or problems.

I continue to have issues with the tailgate opening on its own. Today it came down sometime while I was traveling down the interstate to work. I will eventually loose something out of the back, and I have a cover on the bed, so I cannot see when the tailgate is down.

Are electrical problems common on the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 55 owner complaints naming the electrical system on this model year (5% of everything owners filed about it), and 87 manufacturer bulletins are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the electrical system on the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year (there are 14 filed under other headings). A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.

When do electrical problems show up on the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 36,000 miles; half of them between 22,000 and 65,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Electrical System" heading cover?

Wiring, modules, batteries, charging, infotainment and driver displays — NHTSA's broadest heading. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
