GM bulletin PIP5824C

What it saysThis Preliminary information communicates a possible issue with the active fuel management rockers causing a misfire and the correction for this concern. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

GM filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jan 8, 2024, received Feb 12, 2024, about the fuel/propulsion system. It names 27 model years across Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac (2021–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 27 model years this bulletin names have filed 1,038 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 81 of them name Fuel/Propulsion System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

Fuel pump control module has failed twice. First time vehicle was stranded in middle of 6 lane highway. Second time was not as serious location. This part fails without any notice and vehicle can not be put in netural to be pushed or towed without a lot of difficulty. Service manager told me they change up to 15 of these modules a month.

2021 Cadillac XT5 · Fuel/Propulsion System · filed with NHTSA Jan 16, 2025 · ODI 11636362

To whom it may concern; my son's fiancé was driving on the highway and the vehicle had a sudden loss of power. Afterward, it turned off and would not re-start. After towing the vehicle to a repair facility (out of warranty by mileage, 45K) were advised they retrieved DTC P023F and advised the fuel pump control module failed.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer · Fuel/Propulsion System · filed with NHTSA Sep 5, 2024 · ODI 11612876

The Fuel Pump Control Module failed. It happened when the car was parked. The car would crank, but would not start. We were stranded far from where we live. It was hot and we had to be towed to a GM Dealership. This part could have failed on the hi-way with awful results. The Dealership verified the defective part.

2022 GMC Acadia · Fuel/Propulsion System · filed with NHTSA Jul 9, 2025 · ODI 11672367

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is GM PIP5824C a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the PIP5824C repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every GM warranty extension on file lists the ones GM has filed.

Which vehicles does PIP5824C cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 27 model years across 3 brands (Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac): 2024 Cadillac CT5, 2023 Cadillac CT5, 2022 Cadillac CT5, 2021 Cadillac CT5, 2024 Cadillac XT5, 2023 Cadillac XT5 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
