442 of the 2,473 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Volkswagen Atlas 2018–2027 name the airbags (NHTSA’s “Air Bags” heading — airbags, their sensors and warning lights). The loudest years: 2019 (141), 2021 (103), 2018 (100). Filed under the same heading across these years: 8 recall campaigns. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the airbags. Nothing here is a rate.
When the airbag complaints were filed, and at what mileage

My 2019 Atlas is showing many of the same symptoms of the current Atlas recall, but it isn’t listed on the site. My airbag light is flashing, the adaptive cruise control states that it isn’t available, and many other electrical systems have been failing. The problem began today
1. I was driving towards a stop sign at about 15-20mph(school zone) and all of a sudden the vehicle slammed its brakes and shut off. The dashboards’ lights were all on. Vehicle motor was no longer on. I had cars behind me and my children in the car, so I had to quickly put the car back in Park and turn the car back on via push start.
The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph the driver suddenly steered to the right to avoid a collision with a second vehicle and suddenly the front passenger-side air bags and both the driver side and passenger side curtain airbags erroneously deployed causing the…
I own a 2021 Atlus Cross-Sport and the last month I have had several electrical issues with it. It first started with my driver's windows would automatically roll down, then my radio would tune in/out, my check engine light comes on and then the passenger side air bag would turn off.
The contact owns a 2018 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at 45 MPH, she had hit a storm drain on the side of the road which caused all side curtain and passenger air bags to deploy. The vehicle shut off as the air bags deployed. The police were called and a police report (#20s000488) was filed.

2019, 141; 2021, 103; 2018, 100. Raw counts, and an older year has had longer to collect them; by share of each year's own complaints the loudest is the 2019 (29%).

What does NHTSA's "Air Bags" heading cover?
Airbags, their sensors and warning lights. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
