Counts are owner reports to NHTSA, not verified defects, and scale with how many of these were sold; nothing here is a rate. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so “Air Bags” means the same area of the vehicle, not one fault.

Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the airbags. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

My 2019 Atlas is showing many of the same symptoms of the current Atlas recall, but it isn’t listed on the site. My airbag light is flashing, the adaptive cruise control states that it isn’t available, and many other electrical systems have been failing. The problem began today

1. I was driving towards a stop sign at about 15-20mph(school zone) and all of a sudden the vehicle slammed its brakes and shut off. The dashboards’ lights were all on. Vehicle motor was no longer on. I had cars behind me and my children in the car, so I had to quickly put the car back in Park and turn the car back on via push start.

First issues started with the engine surging at low speeds or coming to a stop which progressed into complete engine stalls. Had the car at the dealer 3 different times, it doesn’t stall anymore but still surges.

Are airbag problems common on the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 141 owner complaints naming the airbags on this model year (29% of everything owners filed about it), and 4 recalls are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the airbags on the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas?

Yes — 4 campaigns are filed under this heading: 23V671000, 23V215000, 22V152000, 19V218000. A recall is matched by VIN; check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

When do airbag problems show up on the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 30,500 miles; half of them between 19,000 and 55,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Air Bags" heading cover?

Airbags, their sensors and warning lights. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
