Porsche bulletin No. 15-25

What it saysManufacturers certificate for an Overview of Approved Porsche C20 Engine Oils. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Porsche filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Feb 12, 2026, received Jul 2, 2025, about the engine — 3 documents under this number. It names 20 model years (2020–2026). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 14 model years this bulletin names have filed 344 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 227 of them name Electrical System, Engine, Visibility/Wiper — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

The car is an electric car. I was driving on the highway and the car shut down completely leaving me without power steering, engine control error, electrical system error. I had to glide to the shoulder of the highway. Luckily traffic was light enough that I was able to get over on the highway and avoid getting hit by other vehicles.

On my 2021 Porsche Cayenne Base, which is equipped with the 3.0L V6 EA839 engine, I brought the vehicle to the dealership for a recall service. During inspection, the dealership found a leaking water pump and quoted $8,500 for repairs. There were no visible signs of a coolant leak on the ground, indicating an internal seal failure.

I was driving home in my 2024 Porsche Macan 4 EV, at about 65 miles per hour on a divided highway. I had my climate control set to 75 degrees on both the driver and passenger side of the vehicle. I believe that the air conditioning was set to off. I also had the drivers seat heated at the max setting. I was alone in my vehicle.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Porsche No. 15-25 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the No. 15-25 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Porsche warranty extension on file lists the ones Porsche has filed.

Which vehicles does No. 15-25 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 20 model years: 2021 Porsche 718, 2021 Porsche 911, 2021 Porsche Cayenne, 2025 Porsche Macan, 2024 Porsche Macan, 2021 Porsche Macan and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
