Mazda bulletin SA-007-24b

What it saysThis information will give you the necessary knowledge to respond to customers concerns of Smart Brake Support (SBS) unintended braking. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Mazda filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Sep 26, 2024, received Oct 4, 2024, about the service brakes. It names 21 model years (2019–2025). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication
Built before 25 Nov 2023 “Produced before November 25, 2023”
2024 Mazda3 (Japan built) before 17 Nov 2023 “Produced before Nov. 17, 2023”

2024 CX-30 (Mexico built) before 26 Oct 2023 “Produced before Oct. 26, 2023”

What it applies to, as the document itself states it — the build window in the manufacturer’s own words, read by machine from the PDF NHTSA serves. The build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb; the dealer settles a borderline vehicle by its VIN.

This information will give you the necessary knowledge to respond to customers concerns of Smart Brake Support (SBS) unintended braking. By educating the customer on the system operation, it should reduce their anxiety or distrust of the vehicle.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 21 model years this bulletin names have filed 1,141 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 93 of them name Service Brakes — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2019 Mazda Mazda3, the 12 owners who gave an odometer reading for Service Brakes reported it at a median of 7,300 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

2024 Mazda CX-50 · Service Brakes · filed with NHTSA Jul 13, 2026

The automatic braking engaged without warning and without cause. There was nothing directly in front of the car that was a possible collision threat. I suffered a neck injury as a result of the force in which the car stopped. Fortunately the driver behind me was able to stop.

2021 Mazda CX-30 · Service Brakes · filed with NHTSA Jul 24, 2022

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Mazda SA-007-24b a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the SA-007-24b repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does SA-007-24b cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 21 model years: 2025 Mazda CX-30, 2024 Mazda CX-30, 2023 Mazda CX-30, 2022 Mazda CX-30, 2021 Mazda CX-30, 2020 Mazda CX-30 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: built before 25 Nov 2023; 2024 Mazda3 (Japan built): built before 17 Nov 2023; 2024 Mazda3 (Mexico built): built before 26 Oct 2023 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
