Maserati bulletin MAS004703 MTB 25-15

What it saysThis Technical bulletin serves as a guide and provides additional diagnostic info to update the engine oil level displayed on the ICS (Integrated Center Stack) for Grecale Hybrid Vehicles and GranTurismo, GranCabrio… NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Maserati filed this with NHTSA as a manufacturer communication dated May 16, 2025, about the engine. It names 26 model years (2017–2025). A manufacturer communication is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 25 model years this bulletin names have filed 59 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 22 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

While driving around 45mph I began to smell a burning scent. This intensified and smoke began to enter the cabin of the car. I pulled over and called 911. After opening the hood the fire department extinguished a small fire in the engine compartment just forward of the driver steering wheel area

2020 Maserati Ghibli · Engine · filed with NHTSA Jan 11, 2023 · ODI 11501234

Stopped at stop sign and slowly tried to accelerate. The car moved forward into oncoming traffic and almost stalled. To compensate I had to press accelerator hard and then engine finally woke back up. This has happened another time where the car stalled and shifted into neutral.

2017 Maserati Ghibli · Engine · filed with NHTSA Jun 24, 2021 · ODI 11422096

While driving at low speeds, under 5mph, the car will shift itself into neutral. This happens while slowing, coasting, or slow accelerations. This has caused an immediate safety issue as you lose control of the car, especially when the shift into neutral is a hard shift.

2017 Maserati Levante · Engine · filed with NHTSA Feb 2, 2024 · ODI 11569584

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Is Maserati MAS004703 MTB 25-15 a recall?

No. A manufacturer communication is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the MAS004703 MTB 25-15 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does MAS004703 MTB 25-15 cover?
