Stellantis bulletin S2208000020

What it saysElectric Mode Temporarily Unavailable, Cluster Message Displayed Vehicle in Fuel Oil Refresh Mode (FORM) NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Stellantis filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jan 31, 2024, received Oct 17, 2022, about the electrical system — 3 documents under this number. It names 18 model years across Jeep and Chrysler (2017–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 18 model years this bulletin names have filed 8,105 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 2,839 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, the 211 owners who gave an odometer reading for Electrical System reported it at a median of 27,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

Randomly, and without warning, the instruments, gauges, and displays will switch into a language I do not speak or understand (Italian). Coinciding with the switch to Italian language, cluster and radio display settings revert back to default settings, auto door locks and paddle shifter becomes inoperative (with no menu to enable)…

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Aug 4, 2025 · ODI 11678139

The car totally shut off when driving 20 MPH. Full tank of gas. Brand new car with 5,000 miles on it. Called Chrysler -- they left US abandoned mid-road, they said it would take the 90 minutes. We purchased the top, perpetual warranty. Called aaa who got the car onto a flatbed. But no way to get it off because wheels are locked.

2018 Chrysler Pacifica · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Sep 7, 2018 · ODI 11127998

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4XE. The contact stated that while driving at 75 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power rapidly and unexpectedly. The contact pulled over to the shoulder before the vehicle stalled. The contact returned to the contact's residence safely, and the vehicle was towed to the dealer the following day.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Stellantis S2208000020 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the S2208000020 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Stellantis warranty extension on file lists the ones Stellantis has filed.

Which vehicles does S2208000020 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 18 model years across 2 brands (Jeep and Chrysler): 2023 Chrysler Pacifica, 2022 Chrysler Pacifica, 2021 Chrysler Pacifica, 2020 Chrysler Pacifica, 2019 Chrysler Pacifica, 2018 Chrysler Pacifica and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
