Stellantis bulletin 1400523

What it saysFuel Nozzle Premature Shut Off The customer may experience the following: ? NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Stellantis filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jul 25, 2023, received Sep 25, 2023, about the fuel/propulsion system. It names 7 model years across Jeep and Dodge (2020–2023). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 7 model years this bulletin names have filed 1,561 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 75 of them name Fuel/Propulsion System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

The contact owns a 2023 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. No warning light was illuminated. The contact turned off and waited before restarting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the fuel pump, but the failure persisted.

You cannot properly fill your gas tank without having to manipulate the pump handle the wrong ways. Every time i've had to fill up I have to sit there and constantly have to reset the pump handle because all the pump think the tank is full. This is a safety issue because I never know when the tank is actually full.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee · Fuel/Propulsion System · filed with NHTSA Jul 10, 2020

My Jeep over the last year has automatically put itself into park while I’m driving down the highway! I’ve had near miss accidents due to this. No warning lights, no signs something is wrong. It just either slams itself into park and locks up, then won’t turn off.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee · Fuel/Propulsion System · filed with NHTSA Jun 19, 2025

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Stellantis 1400523 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 1400523 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does 1400523 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 7 model years across 2 brands (Jeep and Dodge): 2023 Dodge Durango, 2022 Dodge Durango, 2021 Dodge Durango, 2020 Dodge Durango, 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
