Infiniti bulletin ITB12-011Q

What it saysTELEMATICS SERVICE INFORMATION This bulletin has been amended. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Infiniti filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jan 22, 2024, received Feb 8, 2024, about the electrical system. It names 24 model years (2016–2020). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 24 model years this bulletin names have filed 723 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 126 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

The locks on the car automatically keep locking all day long and drain my battery, I have had to have my car jump started and recently towed to Infiniti dealer and they are stating there have been known issues with this electrical problem with rain getting into the sunroof and deteriorating the lines that short out the other systems.

2018 Infiniti Q50 · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Oct 21, 2024 · ODI 11621012

On XXX, at about 8:45 AM MT, my 2018 INFINITI QX30 (77,152 miles) suddenly lost all mobility on XXX in the / area during rush hour. The vehicle had started normally and driven about 9 miles with no warning lights or starting problems. Because traffic was stop-and-go, my recollection is that I had manually disabled Auto Stop/Start.

The windshield wipers quick working while in a rainstorm, more than once. They will stall out and then start again with up to a minute in between. The vehicle can be inspected before repairs. The safety of everyone in and outside the vehicle is compromised significantly, with visibility while driving on all roads and freeways.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Infiniti ITB12-011Q a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the ITB12-011Q repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does ITB12-011Q cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 24 model years: 2019 Infiniti Q50, 2018 Infiniti Q50, 2017 Infiniti Q50, 2016 Infiniti Q50, 2019 Infiniti Q60, 2018 Infiniti Q60 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
