GM bulletin PIE0824A
What it saysThis engineering information (EI) closure ends the need for gathering further information from field in regard to fluid leaking at the output seal and/or leaking at the front slip yoke (welch plug leak). NHTSA’s full summary ↓
GM filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated May 10, 2025, received Sep 10, 2025, about the power train. It names 12 model years across Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac (2025). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseOwners of the 12 model years this bulletin names have filed 558 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 92 of them name Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.
2025 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN HIGH COUNTRY. Vehicle is parked in my garage. Went out in the AM and the engine only cranks, will not start. Called On Star for roadside assistance. Sent a tow truck, the vehicle could not be towed due to the electronic transmission. There is no way for an owner to place the transmission in neutral.
2025 Chevrolet Suburban · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Apr 20, 2026
I was driving when I noticed my vehicle lagging and possibly misfiring, and then the "Service Four-Wheel-Drive" warning appeared. I was just down the road from my house, so I pulled into the driveway and put the car in park, but it wouldn’t turn off. I realized the parking brake was engaged and wouldn’t release either.

We were pulling a 5th wheel camper on the highway at 62 mph. We experienced a series of sudden breaking sensations. Engine RPMs did not change during these events. We had been traveling for 45 minutes and decided to cancel our camping trip and return home because we were afraid of getting stranded away from home.
2025 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Jun 19, 2026
A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is GM PIE0824A a recall?
No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the PIE0824A repair free?
Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.
Which vehicles does PIE0824A cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 12 model years across 3 brands (Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac): 2025 Cadillac Escalade, 2025 Chevrolet Colorado, 2025 Chevrolet Silverado, 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD, 2025 Chevrolet Suburban and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
