Honda CR-V fuel system problems, 2016–2027
1,575 of the 8,155 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Honda CR-V 2016–2027 name the fuel system (NHTSA’s “Fuel/Propulsion System” heading — fuel tanks, lines, pumps and injection — and on an EV, the propulsion battery and motors). The loudest years: 2018 (603), 2017 (378), 2019 (261). Filed under the same heading across these years: 7 manufacturer bulletins, 7 recall campaigns. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the fuel system. Nothing here is a rate.

At 2600 miles, engine oil level has risen to overfull due to unburned gasoline leaking into lubrication system oil was very thin and watery and would cause premature engine failure. Local dealer said they were aware of the problem with crvs with turbo engines, but had no guidance from Honda about any long term fix.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communicationsWhich Honda CR-V years have the most fuel system complaints?
2018, 603; 2017, 378; 2019, 261. Raw counts, and an older year has had longer to collect them; by share of each year's own complaints the loudest is the 2018 (28%).
Is there a recall for the fuel system on the Honda CR-V?
Yes — 7 campaigns are filed under this heading across these model years: 25V378000 (2025), 24V763000 (2025), 23V858000 (2023), 22V380000 (2020). A recall is matched by VIN, and applies to specific years; check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
When do fuel system problems show up on the Honda CR-V?
Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 15,000 miles across the model years; half of them between 4,000 and 47,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.
What does NHTSA's "Fuel/Propulsion System" heading cover?
Fuel tanks, lines, pumps and injection — and on an EV, the propulsion battery and motors. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
