Honda Civic fuel system problems, 2016–2026
409 of the 4,836 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Honda Civic 2016–2026 name the fuel system (NHTSA’s “Fuel/Propulsion System” heading — fuel tanks, lines, pumps and injection — and on an EV, the propulsion battery and motors). The loudest years: 2018 (179), 2019 (145), 2017 (35). Filed under the same heading across these years: 4 recall campaigns. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the fuel system. Nothing here is a rate.
When the fuel system complaints were filed, and at what mileage
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseFiled per calendar year, every model year together: 2017: 1 · 2018: 7 · 2019: 9 · 2020: 14 · 2021: 19 · 2022: 12 · 2023: 31 · 2024: 243 · 2025: 53 · 2026: 20

Honda has sent this recall notice in Feb 2024 and again in Jan 2025. I am unable to get it fixed and remedy. I am getting the run around that parts are not available. I called back in Oct 2024 and was put on a wait list. I called again 2/6/2025 and was told the same thing.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communicationsWhich Honda Civic years have the most fuel system complaints?
2018, 179; 2019, 145; 2017, 35. Raw counts, and an older year has had longer to collect them; by share of each year's own complaints the loudest is the 2019 (32%).
Is there a recall for the fuel system on the Honda Civic?
Yes — 4 campaigns are filed under this heading across these model years: 24V763000 (2025), 23V858000 (2021), 21V215000 (2020), 20V314000 (2019). A recall is matched by VIN, and applies to specific years; check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
When do fuel system problems show up on the Honda Civic?
Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 42,500 miles across the model years; half of them between 16,000 and 70,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.
What does NHTSA's "Fuel/Propulsion System" heading cover?
Fuel tanks, lines, pumps and injection — and on an EV, the propulsion battery and motors. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
