Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the engine. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

Vehicle was slowing at an intersection with foot on brake. Lifted foot off and moved to accelerator to turn right onto the main road. Engine shut off and there was no response on acceleration. Dashboard chimed and gave the warning "auto startstop shift to p, then restart engine." managed to pull the vehicle off to the side of the road.

My 2020 Ford F-150 5.0l v8 has an excessive oil consumption problem. The day I took it to get it's very first oil change (january 2021), before I drove it to the dealership to get changed, I checked the oil level and it was low. It only had 5k miles on it. They changed the oil and topped it off.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are engine problems common on the 2020 Ford F-150?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 139 owner complaints naming the engine on this model year (19% of everything owners filed about it), and 69 manufacturer bulletins are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the engine on the 2020 Ford F-150?

No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year (there are 11 filed under other headings). A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.

When do engine problems show up on the 2020 Ford F-150?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 59,100 miles; half of them between 12,000 and 82,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Engine" heading cover?

The engine and its cooling system. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
