Ram bulletin S2323000085

What it saysDrone Noise From Bed Or Rear Of Truck While Driving At Speeds Between 20 And 45 MPH NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Ram filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Nov 22, 2023, received Jan 16, 2024, about the power train. It names 5 model years (2019–2023). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 5 model years this bulletin names have filed 3,669 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 447 of them name Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2019 Ram 1500, the 75 owners who gave an odometer reading for Power Train reported it at a median of 15,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

Was sitting at a light (auto engine shut-off was on). When the light turned green, lifted off the break to push the gas to go. Truck shut off, all lights on the dashboard lit up and truck was automatically shifted into park with emergency brake on. Attempted to restart the truck several times. Truck finally started after 8th attempt.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Ram S2323000085 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the S2323000085 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Stellantis warranty extension on file lists the ones Stellantis has filed.

Which vehicles does S2323000085 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 5 model years: 2023 Ram 1500, 2022 Ram 1500, 2021 Ram 1500, 2020 Ram 1500, 2019 Ram 1500. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
