Mazda bulletin 01-010-24
What it saysSome vehicles may have coolant leaks at the cylinder head around the exhaust manifold (as shown below). NHTSA’s full summary ↓
Mazda filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Nov 28, 2024, received Dec 4, 2024, about the engine. It names 10 model years (2016–2020). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationWhat it applies to, as the document itself states it — the build window in the manufacturer’s own words, read by machine from the PDF NHTSA serves. The build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb; the dealer settles a borderline vehicle by its VIN.
Some vehicles may have coolant leaks at the cylinder head around the exhaust manifold (as shown below). There may be cracks at the stud bolt hole (1) or at the outside of the exhaust manifold flange (2) on the cylinder head.
Trouble codes it names: P111A all 1 read from the document itself; NHTSA’s summary names none

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (15 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches Mazda’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote. Listings and prices on eBay Motors are the seller’s.
Affiliate disclosure: some links on this page are affiliate links. If you request a quote or buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Nothing on this page changes because of it.
The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseOwners of the 10 model years this bulletin names have filed 819 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 411 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.
On the 2019 Mazda CX-5, the 16 owners who gave an odometer reading for Engine reported it at a median of 31,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

2019 Mazda CX-9 · Engine · filed with NHTSA Jan 11, 2024 · ODI 11564776
Fails to accelerate and change gears. This has been happening since we purchased the vehicle. It has been back to the dealership multiple time and has not been resolved. They are unable to find anything wrong. The engine is a 2.5 l turbo. This happens unexpectedly while driving making it hard to get on to the highway or change lanes
2016 Mazda CX-9 · Engine · filed with NHTSA Jul 22, 2019 · ODI 11233883
For some reason this vehicle will make a whoop sound after driving it for a little then idle, either at a stop light or sitting in a parking lot. The first time we heard it we thought that there was a police vehicle in the area. We took it to Mazda dealership, and they didn't what why it was making that sound.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is Mazda 01-010-24 a recall?
No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the 01-010-24 repair free?
Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Mazda warranty extension on file lists the ones Mazda has filed.
Which vehicles does 01-010-24 cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 10 model years: 2020 Mazda CX-5, 2019 Mazda CX-5, 2020 Mazda CX-9, 2019 Mazda CX-9, 2018 Mazda CX-9, 2017 Mazda CX-9 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: built before 9 Jun 2020; built before 25 Mar 2020; built before 21 Mar 2020 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
