Stellantis bulletin 09-018-24

What it says"2.4L Excessive Oil Consumption XB1 Warranty Extension The customer may describe one or more of the following: Oil pressure low indicator lamp illumination between oil changes. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Stellantis filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Aug 29, 2024, received Sep 4, 2024, about the engine. It names 18 model years across Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler and Fiat (2016–2019). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

One page for every brand it was filed under. Each brand’s bulletins: Jeep · Ram · Dodge · Chrysler · Fiat.

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (5 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches Stellantis’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote. Listings and prices on eBay Motors are the seller’s.

Affiliate disclosure: some links on this page are affiliate links. If you request a quote or buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Nothing on this page changes because of it.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 17 model years this bulletin names have filed 8,543 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 2,714 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2018 Jeep Compass, the 275 owners who gave an odometer reading for Engine reported it at a median of 20,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram Promaster City. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, there was gray smoke coming from the exhaust pipe and the engine. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact who is a certified mechanic, performed an oil change and became aware that the engine was extremely low on engine oil.

2017 Ram Promaster City · Engine · filed with NHTSA Jun 20, 2025

Engine oil and stalling. I went for my 2nd oil change 8/27/2018. The service tech and a mechanic listened when I said the oil was basically gone and my husband had to add 2 quarts. I even checked all the system warnings and there is none for low oil. When pulling out into an intersection the car totally shut off at 4 different times.

2017 Jeep Compass · Engine · filed with NHTSA Sep 4, 2018

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle took multiple attempts to restart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed an oil change. The vehicle was repaired, but the remedy failed.

2016 Jeep Cherokee · Engine · filed with NHTSA Jul 21, 2016

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Stellantis 09-018-24 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 09-018-24 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does 09-018-24 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 18 model years across 5 brands (Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler and Fiat): 2017 Chrysler 200, 2016 Chrysler 200, 2016 Dodge Dart, 2018 Fiat 500 X, 2017 Fiat 500 X, 2016 Fiat 500 X and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: built on or before 25 Aug 2018; built on or before 4 Aug 2018; built on or before 8 Aug 2018 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
