Hyundai service campaign TCL
What it saysCertain Kona (SX2) vehicles may exhibit a dead battery concern linked to the Multimedia Keyboard (MKBD) logic. NHTSA’s full summary ↓
Hyundai filed this with NHTSA as a service campaign dated Feb 19, 2025, received Dec 14, 2024, about the electrical system — 2 documents under this number: 25-01-012H TSB, 24-01-090H. It names 2 model years (2024–2025). A service campaign is not a safety recall — there is no NHTSA campaign number and no federal requirement — but it is usually work the manufacturer pays for on the vehicles it names; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.

What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationWhat it applies to, as the document itself states it — the build window in the manufacturer’s own words, read by machine from the PDF NHTSA serves. The build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb; the dealer settles a borderline vehicle by its VIN.
Certain Kona (SX2) vehicles may exhibit a dead battery concern linked to the Multimedia Keyboard (MKBD) logic. The MKBD may not enter sleep mode when the vehicle is turned OFF, causing the battery to be drained. Follow the procedure in this TSB to update the software for the MKBD to address this condition.

What the document itself lists
The manufacturer titles it “SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR MULTIMEDIA KEYBOARD (MKBD)”.

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (6 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches Hyundai’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote.
The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseOwners of the 2 model years this bulletin names have filed 97 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 53 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.
While driving the instrument panel, headlights and infotainment screen all went black. Has happened multiple times but difficult to replicate. Vehicles head lights turned off while driving in the early morning (dark) but turned back on within a second or two. No warnings, no lights, no errors
2024 Hyundai Kona · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Aug 28, 2025 · ODI 11683772
The vehicle experienced a total electrical failure while driving. Dealer diagnosed the issue as a loose fuse box connector/power distribution connector. The vehicle and repaired component should be available for inspection through the Hyundai dealer service department.
2025 Hyundai Kona · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA May 6, 2026 · ODI 11736013
A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is Hyundai TCL a recall?
No. A service campaign is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the TCL repair free?
A service campaign is usually paid by the manufacturer on the vehicles it names, within the terms and time limit the document sets; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.
Which vehicles does TCL cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 2 model years: 2025 Hyundai Kona, 2024 Hyundai Kona. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: built 19 Jun 2023 – 7 Sep 2024 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
