Genesis bulletin 24-DS-001G

What it saysCertain GV70 (JK1 and JK1A), GV80 (JX1) and G80 (RG3) vehicles may have a hum or whine noise condition from the rear differential at certain speeds. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Genesis filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated May 10, 2024, received Jun 4, 2024, about the power train — 2 documents under this number. It names 12 model years (2021–2025). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

Superseded. Genesis replaced this bulletin with 24-DS-001G-1 dated Oct 31, 2024. Read that one first; this page stays as the record of what was filed under 24-DS-001G.

Certain GV70 (JK1 and JK1A), GV80 (JX1) and G80 (RG3) vehicles may have a hum or whine noise condition from the rear differential at certain speeds. This bulletin describes the procedure to inspect the vehicle for the hum or whine noise and if necessary to tighten the rear differential lock nut first. If the hum or whine noise remains, then replace the rear differential or other driveline components as necessary.

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (20 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches Genesis’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote. Listings and prices on eBay Motors are the seller’s.

Affiliate disclosure: some links on this page are affiliate links. If you request a quote or buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Nothing on this page changes because of it.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 12 model years this bulletin names have filed 425 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 54 of them name Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

Any time I step on the gas to accelerate from the current speed to by pass a car (by changing lanes), the transmission down shift to third gear and does not Up-shift causing the car to reach the top speed of the 3rd gear which is slower then the speed before the shifting occured.

2022 Genesis G80 · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Jul 30, 2025 · ODI 11677255

When turning on the car, the right side of the dashboard (digital panel) will not turn on, it will not display rpm, gas or speed. The turn signals are not making the click noise. The issue happens randomly and I haven’t been able to replicate it in the presence of the dealer.

2022 Genesis G80 · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Jan 27, 2026 · ODI 11713529

The contact owns a 2024 Genesis GV70. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle failed to accelerate. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle moderately accelerated after switching gear.

2024 Genesis GV70 · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Sep 14, 2026 · ODI 11764092

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Genesis 24-DS-001G a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 24-DS-001G repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Hyundai warranty extension on file lists the ones Hyundai has filed.

Which vehicles does 24-DS-001G cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 12 model years: 2024 Genesis G80, 2023 Genesis G80, 2022 Genesis G80, 2021 Genesis G80, 2025 Genesis GV70, 2024 Genesis GV70 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
