What it saysCertain 2023MY G80 Electrified (RG3 EV), 2023-24MY GV60 (JW1 EV), and 2023-24MY GV70 Electrified (JK1a EV) vehicles may have a condition where low 12V auxiliary battery charging occurs due to an ICCU (Integrated Charge… NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Genesis filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Sep 21, 2023, received Oct 2, 2023, about the electrical system — 2 documents under this number. It names 5 model years (2023–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication
Built 23 Feb 2022 – 1 Jun 2023 “Produced from 02/23/2022 – 06/01/2023”
Built 4 Feb 2023 – 26 Jun 2023 “Produced from 02/04/2023 – 06/26/2023”

What it applies to, as the document itself states it — the build window in the manufacturer’s own words, read by machine from the PDF NHTSA serves. The build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb; the dealer settles a borderline vehicle by its VIN.

Certain 2023MY G80 Electrified (RG3 EV), 2023-24MY GV60 (JW1 EV), and 2023-24MY GV70 Electrified (JK1a EV) vehicles may have a condition where low 12V auxiliary battery charging occurs due to an ICCU (Integrated Charge Control Unit) fault and may set the following DTC P1A9096 – “DC/DC Converter Input Voltage Sensor Fault”. When a fault occurs, the vehicle may enter a reduced power mode while various warning lights, an audible chime will sound, and large messaging in the vehicle’s instrument cluster will appear and instruct the driver to stop the vehicle. The Service Procedure flow to be followed is outlined by the flowchart on Page-3. The ICCU system is to be checked by GDS for DTC P1A9096 and depending on the result, will involve either an ICCU software update, or ICCU and fuse replacement.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 5 model years this bulletin names have filed 174 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 100 of them name Electrical System, Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

ICCU failed leaving me stranded on the side of the road (thankfully not on bridge). This was supposed to have been fixed under a recall the week prior by reprogramming the computer. Genesis has not changed the ICCU so even if/when repaired, it will most likely happen again. The Genesis of Wexford, PA dealer confirmed ICCU and fuse blown.

The contact owns a 2023 Genesis GV60. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V300000 (Power Train) however, the failure occurred after the recall repair was performed. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration.

Our 2023 Genesis G80 electrified has been towed three times for the 12v battery or its electrical system. We have yet to drive the Genesis once. It is a safety danger which produces toxic smells in the interior and the trunk plastic gets hot to the touch. The interior was impregnated with the smell as the car was closed.

2023 Genesis G80 · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Jun 22, 2023 · ODI 11528366

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Genesis 23-01-069G-1 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 23-01-069G-1 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Hyundai warranty extension on file lists the ones Hyundai has filed.

Which vehicles does 23-01-069G-1 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 5 model years: 2023 Genesis G80, 2024 Genesis GV60, 2023 Genesis GV60, 2024 Genesis GV70, 2023 Genesis GV70. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: built 23 Feb 2022 – 1 Jun 2023; built 4 Feb 2023 – 26 Jun 2023 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
