GM filed this with NHTSA as a service campaign dated Aug 9, 2024, about the service brakes. It names 4 model years across Chevrolet and GMC (2024). A service campaign is not a safety recall — there is no NHTSA campaign number and no federal requirement — but it is usually work the manufacturer pays for on the vehicles it names; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.

What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationPicked out of NHTSA’s summary below, word for word. The document itself is the record, and the dealer checks the VIN.
Customer Satisfaction Program. On certain vehicles equipped with Integrated Trailer Brake (RPO JL1), if the trailer battery is charged to a higher voltage than the vehicle battery, it may cause the voltage to feed back into the vehicle battery and create a false short to ground. This false short to ground will trigger trailer braking to be disabled with customer notification. Dealers are to replace the Trailer Brake Power Module (TBPM).

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (4 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches GM’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote.
The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseOwners of the 4 model years this bulletin names have filed 356 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 78 of them name Service Brakes — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.
New Silverado 2500 HD LT and new Keystone Cougar 30BHS. My new truck is experiencing random trailer break controller disconnection while towing. This happened yesterday on the first trip bringing it home from the RV Dealership to my house. The trip was 68 miles total. It happened often and without a pattern.

Breaks and/or drive train. It is available for inspection. 1) Breaks sink causing slowed break time and decreased breaking ability. If the breaks are "pumped", more often than not, they will come back up to full pedal. However, in an emergency breaking situation, there is not time to "pump" the breaks.

I purchased a 2024 GMC 2500 HD truck to pull a 2021 8,000 lb gvw camping trailer that is equipped with electric trailer brakes. My trailer has functioned perfectly related to the trailer brakes with my previous vehicle (2011 Toyota Tundra).

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.
