Audi bulletin A1923442071515_1

What it saysThis bulletin provides information for when there is a coolant leak on a 2.0L engine. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Audi filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Sep 20, 2023, received Oct 5, 2023, about the engine. It names 48 model years (2020–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

Engine 2.0L “This bulletin provides information for when there is a coolant leak on a 2.0L engine.”

What it applies to, as NHTSA’s summary states it — build dates and equipment as the manufacturer filed them. The dealer checks the VIN and the build date on the door jamb; a vehicle outside the window is not covered by this bulletin.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 48 model years this bulletin names have filed 960 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 140 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2020 Audi Q3, the 18 owners who gave an odometer reading for Engine reported it at a median of 2,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

The first time, while driving at 50-55mph, the engine decelerated suddenly. After about 10-15 seconds struggles with the gas pedal and brake pedal, the car accelerated normally. I pulled safely to side of the road to shut off the engine and start again. Things seemed to work like normal. The control panels did not show any warning signs.

2021 Audi A7 · Engine · filed with NHTSA Apr 5, 2026 · ODI 11729313

The contact owns a 2021 Audi A6. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle overheated. The engine overheating and the low coolant warning light illuminated. In addition, the engine seized. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a coolant leak and a failed coolant pump vacuum.

2021 Audi A6 · Engine · filed with NHTSA May 11, 2026 · ODI 11736958

If driving and the vehicle is put in park then put back into gear without turning off first, the vehicle will stall. Usually happens to me in parking lots but happened while I was parked on a hill. The vehicle stalled after being put in drive and started rolling down the hill - the power steering and ABS did not work.

2023 Audi Q3 · Engine · filed with NHTSA Dec 18, 2023 · ODI 11560744

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Audi A1923442071515_1 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the A1923442071515_1 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does A1923442071515_1 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 48 model years: 2024 Audi A3, 2023 Audi A3, 2022 Audi A3, 2020 Audi A3, 2024 Audi A4, 2023 Audi A4 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
