322 of the 1,421 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Volkswagen Tiguan 2016–2027 name the electrical system (NHTSA’s “Electrical System” heading — wiring, modules, batteries, charging, infotainment and driver displays — NHTSA's broadest heading). The loudest years: 2022 (62), 2019 (56), 2018 (46). Filed under the same heading across these years: 3 manufacturer bulletins, 2 recall campaigns. Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the electrical system. Nothing here is a rate.

Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the electrical system, from the model years with the most to say. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

While driving, the speakers suddenly started blaring a persistent noise at full volume. It nearly caused me to run the car off the road. I had to cover my ears while trying to find a place to safely pull the car off the road all while trying to plug my ears. Turning off the radio didn't stop the noise.

We bought a new 2019 tiguan for my 16 year old daughter. At just over 5 thousand miles, she was driving the car home from school when all the electric power was lost. The engine kept running, but she lost all the lights, headlights, break lights, radio, ac, speedometer, etc. Basically everything stopped working except the engine.

Which Volkswagen Tiguan years have the most electrical complaints?
