How photos are checked

Every photo added to a garage is checked automatically, in a few seconds, before anyone else can see it. Here is what happens, in order.

  1. Upright and clean. The photo is turned the right way up and re-made from its pixels. Everything else in the file goes: the GPS position, the camera and phone details, the date, and any other hidden data. A photo taken in a driveway would otherwise carry the address.
  2. Safe to publish. Amazon Rekognition’s content moderation looks for nudity, violence, hate symbols and drugs. A photo that fails is deleted and never published.
  3. Is it a car?. The car, its interior or its engine has to be the subject, and big enough in the frame to see.
  4. Sharp and bright enough. Very blurry or very dark photos are turned back with a note, so you can take another.
  5. People and plates. A photo of a person rather than a car is turned back. Faces in the background, and licence plates, are found and blurred before anything is published.
  6. Published. The photo is saved in four sizes for fast pages and its colour is used behind it while it loads. Only then can it appear on your garage.

The checks get it wrong sometimes

If a good photo of your car is turned back, try it again with more of the car in frame, or write to info@whichtrim.com. If many good photos fail, the thresholds are wrong, not the owners, and we change them.

Where photos are kept

An upload waits in a private store until it is checked, and is deleted from there straight after; anything left over is removed after seven days. Published photos are served from whichtrim.com. Delete a photo, a car or your Showroom and its photos are deleted too. Photos are never sold, and never used for anything but your garage.
