Ever since the lease of this vehicle on January 2025 we’ve had problems with the brake/rotors took it in twice for that. As of recent August 2025, we took it in for loss of power going up a hill, hybrid malfunctioning electrical system going out. Dealership gave it back saying everything was fine.
This is a 2024 Mazda CX-90 PEHV where I took it in for all recalls on January 17th, 2025 related to loss of power and hybrid system malfunction. Today, Jan 31st, 2024 (2 weeks and a few 100 miles later), I now have engine malfunction warnings lights.
While driving (less than 2000 miles on the OD) in our 2024 cx90 SE the vehicle started to shift out of timing and everything shut off at once. The vehicle lost all power and all parts shut down. The vehicle would start back up and power steering went out. Our driving speed was at 30mph so it was extremely scary during rush hour traffic.
The contact owned a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the engine seized. The contact stated that the failure occurred while the contact was driving at night on a busy dark road. The Police was contacted for assistance.
Vehicle present engine hesitation. In acceleration the engine losses power, noticeable delay and jerk when accelerating from a stop. Also if you have to make a suddenly speed reduction, you see that the vehicle still accelerating.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communicationsAre engine problems common on the 2024 Mazda CX-90?
They are documented: NHTSA holds 82 owner complaints naming the engine on this model year (19% of everything owners filed about it), and 129 manufacturer bulletins are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.
Is there a recall for the engine on the 2024 Mazda CX-90?
No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year (there are 11 filed under other headings). A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.
When do engine problems show up on the 2024 Mazda CX-90?
Too few of the complaints carry an odometer reading to say. The model year's page shows the mileage curve across every system where it can.
What does NHTSA's "Engine" heading cover?
The engine and its cooling system. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
