I was driving on the interstate and the engine just died. I pulled over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle and when I put it in gear it acted as if it were in neutral. I then shut off the vehicle and restarted it and it drove fine.
Engine at 26,000 miles Dec 18, 2017 NHTSA owner report
Around 8:00 PM on 9 nov 2017 I was driving on a busy highway going approximately 60 - 65 MPH in the far left lane when the check engine light, ABS light, and traction control light came on. Then the vehicle engine shut off. It would not turn back on and I had to slowly coast to the far right lane.

Engine dies when driving. Windshield wipers come on tpm light comes on then engine dies. Sometimes when driving the wipers come on, tpm light, then car slowes but recovers or dies completly. When starting car turn key to start and the starter continues when you let go of key.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are engine problems common on the 2016 Jeep Wrangler?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 93 owner complaints naming the engine on this model year (20% of everything owners filed about it), and 28 manufacturer bulletins are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the engine on the 2016 Jeep Wrangler?

No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year (there are 5 filed under other headings). A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.

When do engine problems show up on the 2016 Jeep Wrangler?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 45,000 miles; half of them between 26,000 and 71,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Engine" heading cover?

The engine and its cooling system. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
