Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the engine. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

I have had my car for exactly 3 months..... First thing that went wrong was the trunk hydraulic bar broken and fell off after I opened my trunk. And the big issue.. My car randomly shuts off while i'm driving, it started on the turnpike and then continued on the city streets.

I was driving to work on a rural area road, going downhill and was preceding to turn right. I receive a warning that I had low oil pressure and the vehicle stalled. I read others have experienced the vehicle to shutdown completely , but this did not happen to me this time. When you check the oil it is in fact low.
Engine at 5,249 miles Feb 23, 2019 NHTSA owner report
On 2 separate occasions, within about 1 week of each other, the engine stalled while making a right turn. My vehicle only had about 7k miles on it at the time. The 2nd time it happened there was a low oil pressure warning that had come on briefly when I started the engine.
Engine at 7,000 miles Feb 15, 2019 NHTSA owner report
While driving, my Jeep Renegade will just turn off. I have to pull off to the side of the road and put the car in park and try to restart the car a couple of times. This will cause a major accident to someone someday. It just shuts off without warning. It's a 2018 Jeep Renegade with 5k miles! Why would it just shut off?
Engine at 5,000 miles Dec 26, 2018 NHTSA owner report
My Jeep has stalled out while i'm in drive three times within the last 24 hours. Oil is fresh and has full tank of gas

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are engine problems common on the 2018 Jeep Renegade?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 194 owner complaints naming the engine on this model year (44% of everything owners filed about it), and 41 manufacturer bulletins are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the engine on the 2018 Jeep Renegade?

No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year (there are 2 filed under other headings). A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.

When do engine problems show up on the 2018 Jeep Renegade?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 20,000 miles; half of them between 5,000 and 41,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Engine" heading cover?

The engine and its cooling system. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
