Problem: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LCC (Jaguar) is recalling one 2016 Jaguar F-Type vehicle manufactured February 3, 2015. The affected vehicle has the power steering system still set in the supplier's factory operating mode. In this condition, in the event of a steering system malfunction, the vehicle can experience additional steering inputs from the electric power steering system.

Risk: If the vehicle is in motion when this occurs, the driver may unexpectedly lose the ability to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Jaguar will notify the owner, and a dealer will either correct the steering system software or replace the steering rack, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin October 31, 2015. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J055.

Sources & method

Safety Signal starts every model-year at 100 and subtracts points per open NHTSA recall campaign by severity: critical 15 (fire risk, park-outside or do-not-drive advisories), high 8 (brakes, steering, airbags, loss of drive power, structure, battery), moderate 6, minor 3 (software, labels, lighting fixed by an update). Floor 35. A ≥ 90, B ≥ 80, C ≥ 70, D ≥ 60, otherwise F. Complaint counts and NHTSA crash ratings are shown separately and are not blended into the grade.

EPA figures come from fueleconomy.gov vehicle records (ids 36011, 36010, 36013, 36012, 36033, 36032, 36308, 36307, 36042, 36041, 36040, 36310). Recalls, complaints, investigations and crash ratings come from NHTSA's public flat files, refreshed weekly.
