I have a 2020 Ford Edge SEL and out of nowhere on 09-08-2023 smoke was pouring out of the exhaust and the car was misfiring. I looked further into it and it seemed to be the coolant was leaking down into the cylinder and causing it to burn through the exhaust making it very difficult to breathe.

While sitting at a traffic signal light that had just changed I removed my foot from the brake and put it on the gas pedal. Suddenly the car lurched forward without any pressure being applied to the gas pedal. This could cause a serious accident if it accelerates at the wrong time

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are engine problems common on the 2020 Ford Edge?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 51 owner complaints naming the engine on this model year (16% of everything owners filed about it), and 22 manufacturer bulletins are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the engine on the 2020 Ford Edge?

No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year (there are 4 filed under other headings). A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.

When do engine problems show up on the 2020 Ford Edge?

Too few of the complaints carry an odometer reading to say. The model year's page shows the mileage curve across every system where it can.

What does NHTSA's "Engine" heading cover?

The engine and its cooling system. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
