Bought the car used with 35,982 miles. A year after I purchased the van my check engine light came on. Changed the oil and spark plugs. The light stayed on and continued to run rough. We contacted Dodge multiple times to be told my car wasn't under warranty. We took my car to be put on the computer and found a few small issues.

The engine won't shut down after being driven. When the vehicle has been parked, and put into park, then turn the key off, the vehicle is still running. It'll run for several minutes, then cut off. I've tried to put the key back in and turn it on and then off, van still runs. I've unhooked the battery to see if it would reset itself.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are engine problems common on the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 85 owner complaints naming the engine on this model year (8% of everything owners filed about it), and 25 manufacturer bulletins are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the engine on the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan?

No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year (there are 6 filed under other headings). A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.

When do engine problems show up on the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 80,000 miles; half of them between 66,000 and 100,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Engine" heading cover?

The engine and its cooling system. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
