Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the brakes. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

My vehicles battery died, camera systems unavailable, cruising systems unavailable, breaking system breaker on clear highway at 55MPH with my kids in the back. The car is faulty!! 8+ months now waiting on a resolution! 7+ service visits now I’m being ignored!!

Brake on driver side front became super hot and started dragging causing the steering wheel to shake. Dealership stated calipers are fine need pins replaced. Pins on back order. In the meantime they cleaned the pins and re-lubed them and said I was good to go until the parts come in. 5 days later same exact thing.

Brakes emitting squeaking and scratching noises. Brakes are spongy. Dealerships are refusing to change the brakes or apply brake grease
Service Brakes May 23, 2025 NHTSA owner report
I purchased the vehicle September 2024. The brakes have been squealing every time I drive the vehicle since 2 days after purchasing. I have made several complaints to multiple dealerships who keep saying squeaking is normal on brakes. Brakes squeaking continually is not normal and should not be on any vehicle.
Service Brakes May 23, 2025 NHTSA owner report
While backing out of a driveway into an unobstructed road with no oncoming traffic from either side nor any pedestrians or cyclists approaching, the automatic emergency braking system applied the brakes and then locked up leaving the vehicle as an obstruction in the road.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are brake problems common on the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 60 owner complaints naming the brakes on this model year (44% of everything owners filed about it), and 1 NHTSA investigation is filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the brakes on the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse?

No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year. A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.

When do brake problems show up on the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse?

Too few of the complaints carry an odometer reading to say. The model year's page shows the mileage curve across every system where it can.

What does NHTSA's "Service Brakes" heading cover?

The hydraulic brakes, ABS and brake assist. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
