Ram bulletin 114255

Ram filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Aug 26, 2026, received Sep 3, 2026, about the engine. It names 32 model years (2019–2026). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 16 model years this bulletin names have filed 1,492 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 273 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2019 Ram 3500, the 17 owners who gave an odometer reading for Engine reported it at a median of 75,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

For thanksgiving I was driving home from a trip to california about 800 miles away from home, on a merging lane I stepped on the gas to clear lane for a emerging semi trailer I was traveling around 65 MPH as I did that I got a warning message on my dashboard to service exhaust system then lost all power from my vehicle from 65 to 35 on…

Purchased the truck new with 25 miles on it from the dealer. Within the first 2000 miles, I had a message pop up that said "Service Exhaust System See Dealer". I took it in to the dealer, they said it showed a random emission related code had popped up but was not currently active, so their recommendation was to clear it and see if it…

2026 Ram 3500 · Engine · filed with NHTSA Dec 23, 2025 · ODI 11706824

Truck died in traffic. Lost all power steering, brakes, etc. almost caused a multiple vehicle accident, and left me stranded in the middle of traffic until I could get assistance to move. There was no warning or notice before the truck just quit working. A warning light came on after the truck died and stated "exhaust system failure.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Ram 114255 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 114255 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Stellantis warranty extension on file lists the ones Stellantis has filed.

Which vehicles does 114255 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 32 model years: 2026 Ram 2500, 2025 Ram 2500, 2024 Ram 2500, 2023 Ram 2500, 2022 Ram 2500, 2021 Ram 2500 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
