Porsche filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Sep 29, 2026, received Oct 2, 2026, about the steering. It names 6 model years (2021–2026). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 6 model years this bulletin names have filed 29 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 4 of them name Steering, Wheels, Suspension — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On September 23, 2023, in the late afternoon, the control arm of my Porsche 911 (front driver side) snapped while making a routine stop at a stop sign in a residential neighborhood, driving at approximately 25mph. There was smoke that came from the front driver side wheel as the control arm had snapped and that wheel was being dragged.

This is a 2025 Porsche 911. The car came equipped with "Land Keep Assist" also referred to as "LKA". In operation it is at times terrible, and at other times genuinely frightening. The system, without warning, intervenes to change the direction of the vehicle by applying steering input. It is very, very, inaccurate and unreliable.

2025 Porsche 911 · Steering · filed with NHTSA Sep 6, 2026 · ODI 11762474

On nine (9) separate occasions the vehicle which is equipped with Lane Keep Assist (LKA) automatically and without operator intervention will engage LKA which causes abrupt and at times uncontrolled steering action which totally surprises the operator. This occurs at random times approximately 40 to 50 miles per hour.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Porsche No. 64-26-1 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the No. 64-26-1 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Porsche warranty extension on file lists the ones Porsche has filed.

Which vehicles does No. 64-26-1 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 6 model years: 2026 Porsche 911, 2025 Porsche 911, 2024 Porsche 911, 2023 Porsche 911, 2022 Porsche 911, 2021 Porsche 911. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
