Nissan bulletin NTB24-015A

What it saysENGINE SUPPORT TOOLS This bulletin has been amended. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Nissan filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Mar 22, 2024, received Apr 6, 2024, about the power train. It names 4 model years (2017–2020). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 4 model years this bulletin names have filed 387 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 63 of them name Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder, the 22 owners who gave an odometer reading for Power Train reported it at a median of 45,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

This has been an on going issue with this vehicle where it will cut out start to shutter or is lurching as driving on the road has happened when coming off a stop sign and coming up to 25 mph, has happened when driving on the interstate at 75 to 80 mph, will normally come back to normal operations, has been into the dealership a number…

2020 Nissan Pathfinder · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Jul 18, 2024

When driving at differing speeds, the transmission reduces, then stops applying power to the wheels, and acts as though it's in neutral. This has happened at freeway speeds, down to below 20 MPH, and a all operating temperatures. The brake pedal was not touched in conjunction with the gas pedal, and the vehicle was always in drive.

2018 Nissan Pathfinder · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Oct 11, 2019

I currently have 38000 miles on my car and have already had the high pressure fuel pump replaced plus the low pressure one. My alternator was replaced last month and not my coolant fan is making a horrible noise and has to be replace.

2017 Nissan Pathfinder · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Nov 14, 2018

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Nissan NTB24-015A a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the NTB24-015A repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does NTB24-015A cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 4 model years: 2020 Nissan Pathfinder, 2019 Nissan Pathfinder, 2018 Nissan Pathfinder, 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
